CHT minister asks DCs to play effective role in mainstreaming region’s development

Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Dipen Dewan today asked  Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to play an effective role in integrating the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) into the mainstream of development.

“The three hill districts of the country are highly sensitive, and DCs must carry out their responsibilities while maintaining all aspects carefully,” he said.

He made this remark while speaking at the second session of the “Deputy Commissioners’ Conference-2026” held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium here.

He stressed the need for a balanced understanding of resource management, including land use, forest resource conservation, and resource extraction. “To ensure these goals DCs must have a clear understanding of the CHT,” he said.

He added that the government is working to alleviate poverty through improvements in education, healthcare, agriculture, and infrastructure.

He stressed the importance of constructing “Headman Offices” in Khagrachhari, implementing safe drinking water projects in Bandarban, and building separate hostels for students in every upazila level.

State Minister for Land and CHT  Affairs, Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin attended the session as   special guest.

He said the concept of “Rainbow Nation” introduced by Prime Minister Tarek Rahman is successfully reflected in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, where the harmony among diverse ethnic groups forms the foundation of the country’s nationalism.

Addressing field-level officials, the state minister said Bangladesh will not be allowed to become a safe haven for criminals.

He added that ensuring people’s rights, upholding human rights, guaranteeing constitutional rights for every citizen, and safeguarding the lives and property of the people will be ensured.

Cabinet Secretary Dr. Nasimul Ghani chaired the session while Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintu attended it as chief guest.
