Prime Minister dedicated himself to taking Bangladesh forward: Moyeen

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan has said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, elected by the people's votes, has taken charge of the country and dedicated himself to advancing Bangladesh on the path of democracy and development and to the struggle for establishing people's rights.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists present at the National Martyrs' Memorial (Jatiya Smriti Saudha) in Savar this afternoon after paying homage to the memories of the heroic martyrs.

Saying that the Prime Minister is aware of various problems facing the country, Moyeen Khan said removing these problems, turning Bangladesh into a dynamic state and restoring the country's reputation in the world are now the premier's main objectives.

He said, "We have to remember that during crisis in 1971, when the people of the country were bewildered and when the country's Liberation War had reached its appropriate moment, a party that claims to be a force in favour of the country's independence, utterly failed to discharge its responsibility. At that time, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman declared independence from the Kalurghat Betar Kendro. These histories should be told to the younger generation."

“Young generation had seen Bangladesh's democratic journey failed and the BNP had repeatedly undertaken new efforts to take the country towards democracy.

The minister further said that following the tragic death of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman in 1981, Begum Khaleda Zia, the country's leader, had emerged as the torchbearer of the nation.

She struggled on the streets, established herself as an uncompromising leader and was elected the country's first woman Prime Minister through the people's votes in 1991, Moyeen Khan said.

As a continuation of this, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman took charge of the country in 2026, he said, adding that under his leadership, "we will rebuild this country anew."

On Friday evening, BNP Standing Committee Member and Narsingdi-2 constituency lawmaker Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan took oath as the Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives.
