Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon has said the new government is committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in the country’s education sector.

“We will not indulge in corruption and we will not allow anyone to adopt corruption. It is our commitment to keep the education ministry completely free from corruption,” he said.

The education minister said this while exchanging views with representatives of the Teachers-Employees Unity Alliance at the Bangladesh Secretariat today.

State Minister for Education Bobby Hajjaj was present. 

Education minister said the teachers would no longer need to come to the streets to realise their logical demands.

“The government is giving top priority to education. Initiatives will be taken to implement the reasonable demands of the teachers and employees in phases,” he said.

Despite some budgetary constraints, Milon said, the unresolved issues of teachers will be presented to the prime minister.

About the Non Government Teachers Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA), he said the changes in the recruitment system will be reviewed. Decisions will be taken after reviewing where amendment is needed,” he added.

The education minister said the issue of teachers’ retirement allowance and a welfare trust for them is under active consideration of the government. 

Although there are some budgetary constraints, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has special instructions to improve the quality of teachers, he said.

Milion said the education sector is being given utmost importance at the policy-making level of the current government, which has also been reflected in the recent cabinet meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, State Minister Bobby Hajjaj said the demands raised by the teachers have been taken into account with importance.
“We do not want to take any decision hurriedly. We want to come to a long-term solution in consultation with the teachers, so that teachers need not go for agitation in every few years on same demand,” he said.

He also stressed the need for ensuring proper social status of the teachers, side by side evaluating their performance in classroom.

The state minister said the government has a plan to bring country’s all education systems under a ‘general umbrella’ or ‘common framework’.

He further said no political influence and partisanship will be tolerated in educational institutions. 

“The main goal of the ministry is to keep the education sector free from two curses- politics and corruption”, Bobby Hajjaj said.

Lawmaker from Cumilla-2 Selim Bhuiyan, senior officials of the ministry and central leaders of the alliance were present.
