Aminul urges banks, FIs to play active role to develop sports fields

The State Minister for Youth and Sports M Aminul Haque today urged the banks and financial institutions of the country to play an active role in the overall development of the country's sports arena and ensuring the professionalism of players.

He made the remark at a view exchange meeting with the managing directors and chief executive officers of the country's leading banks and financial institutions at the conference room of the National Sports Council.

Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, presided by Md. Mahbub-ul-Alam, Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the State Minister said that the role of the private sector, especially banks and financial institutions, along with government efforts, in developing sports fields is immense.

Not all federations in the country are equally financially sound. In that case, we sincerely appreciate your cooperation. You should stay involved in every sport and be an integral part of the sports arena through regular sponsorship, he opined.

Regarding improving the quality of life of players and securing their future, the State Minister said: “We are working to establish sports as a respectable profession …… a plan has been taken to bring national-level players under a fixed salary structure. In addition, the 'New Budding Sports' program to search for talented players from the grassroots will be launched nationwide immediately after the holy Eid-ul-Fitr.”

Executives of banks and financial institutions, present at the meeting, welcomed this initiative of the Sports Ministry and expressed their satisfaction for appointing a sports personality as a State Minister.

They also expressed their determination to work shoulder to shoulder to elevate the country's sports arena to a world standard.
