President's press secretary Sarwar Alam joins today

Newly-appointed President's Press Secretary Md Sarwar Alam joined the office of Bangabhaban Press Wing this morning.

Earlier, former secretary Md Sarwar Alam was reappointed Tuesday as the Press Secretary to the President on a contractual basis for one year.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification in this regard last evening.

The elected new government gave this appointment under Section 49 of the Government Service Act, 2018 on condition that he must sever ties with any other profession, business or employment with government, semi-government or private organisations, it said.

His contractual tenure will take effect from the date of joining, the notification added.

Sarwar Alam, an officer of the 1984 BCS Information Cadre batch, also served as deputy press secretary to former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.

Earlier, he served as the senior information officer to Home Minister Abdul Matin Chowdhury.

In 2022, he went on post-retirement leave while serving as Director (Joint Secretary) of the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority.

In 1994, he was posted to Bangladesh Deputy High Commission, Kolkata, and served second and first (Press) there.

As alumnus of the top-ranked Notre Dame College and Motijheel Ideal High School and College, he obtained M.S.C and B.S.C (Honors) from the University of Dhaka in 1983 and 1982 respectively achieving a First Class in board examination.
