

TBT DESK: Mohammad Abdul Hamid has been elected President of the Bangladesh Garment Buying House Association (BGBA), while Mohammad Shahanur Islam has secured the post of Vice President (Administration), in the association’s biennial election for the 2026–2028 term.
The election was held on Saturday at the Uttara Club in the capital in a peaceful and festive atmosphere. Voting took place throughout the day, drawing active participation from members of the association.
A total of 28 candidates contested for 21 executive committee posts in the closely watched election, reflecting strong interest among members in shaping the future leadership of the organisation. Following the announcement of the preliminary results, candidates were seen exchanging greetings and congratulations, underscoring a spirit of unity and mutual respect within the industry body.
BGBA leaders said the newly elected committee would work to protect the interests of garment buying houses, strengthen compliance and transparency, and further enhance Bangladesh’s position in the global apparel sourcing market.
The Bangladesh Garment Buying House Association plays a significant role in linking international buyers with local manufacturers and is regarded as an important stakeholder in the country’s export-oriented garment sector. The new leadership is expected to focus on addressing current challenges while promoting sustainable growth and professional standards across the industry.
