Sylhet custodial death: Suspended SI Akbar placed on 7-day remand

SYLHET, – A court here today granted seven-day remand for suspended sub-inspector Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan, prime suspect of the custodial killing of Rayhan Ahmed on October 11.

Sylhet Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Abul Kashem passed the order today when investigation officer of PBI produced him before the court seeking 7-day remand, special public prosecutor Shah Mushahid Ali confirmed.

Akbar was detained from the bordering area of Sylhet’s Kanaighat upazila yesterday morning and later handed over to PBI in the evening.

On October 12 last, a case was filed in connection with the death of Rayhan at Bandarbazar Police Outpost in Sylhet city.

According to the case statement, Rayhan was allegedly tortured to death by some people on October 11 in 2020.
