COVID-19 cases cross 1,300 mark in Rangpur division

RANGPUR,– The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) positive cases crossed the 1,300 mark as 28 more new patients were diagnosed with the lethal virus at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur division on Tuesday.

“The total number of COVID-19 patients now stands at 1,309 in all eight districts of Rangpur division at 8 am today,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

“The district-wise break up of the patients stands at 464 in Rangpur, 86 in Panchagarh, 154 in Nilphamari, 48 in Lalmonirhat, 75 in Kurigram, 130 in Thakurgaon, 281 in Dinajpur and 71 Gaibandha districts in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Meanwhile, the total number of recovered of COVID-19 patients rose to 487 with discharging of 12 more people after their recovery from the Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospitals in all eight districts of Rangpur division on Friday.

“The percentage of recovery among all 1,309 coronavirus infected patients stands at 37.20 now in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

The 487 recovered COVID-19 patients include 198 of Rangpur, 20 of Panchagarh, 68 of Nilphamari, 24 of Lalmonirhat, 49 of Kurigram, 36 of Thakurgaon, 70 of Dinajpur and 22 of Gaibandha districts.

Meanwhile, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan a total of 16,988 collected samples of Rangpur division were so far tested, and of them, the 1,309 found coronavirus positive with the percentage of 7.70 in the division.

The total number of fatalities stands at 22 in the division including nine of Rangpur, three of Gaibandha, four of Nilphamari, two each of Panchagarh, Dinajpur and Thakurgaon districts.

Among the total 1,309 coronavirus infected patients, 211 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after release of 487 recovered patients and 22 deaths while 589 remaining in isolation at homes in the division.

“We have a capacity of 2,552 beds at 25 quarantine and isolation centres and 13 beds with 13 ventilators at two intensive care units of two government hospitals to provide treatments to the COVID-19 patients and face the situation in the division,” he said.

Since the beginning, a total of 40,507 people were put in quarantines, and of them, 35,124 released and 5,383 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines in Rangpur division.

During the last 24 hours, 259 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 357 others released from all eight districts in the division.

After getting a total of 1,37,768 pieces of personal protective equipment so far, we have already distributed 84,860 pieces of the same among the health service providers with a stock of 52,908 pieces in the division.

“The government hospitals, health complexes and other health services providing facilities have 1,123 physicians, 1,757 nurses and 5,907 other staff to face the COVID-19 situation in Rangpur division,” Dr. Khan added.
