DHAKA, – Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today called upon the Election Commission (EC) to find out the culprits behind the conflict during the election campaign in Gopibagh area on Sunday.

“The Election Commission should unearth the truth through investigation over the conflict at Gopibagh,” he said while replying to questions of
journalists at a press conference at Road Transport and Highways Division conference room in the Secretariat here.

About Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukdar’s remarks that there is no level-playing field in the EC, the AL general secretary questioned “What is
called level-playing field in the EC? I didn’t hear such things earlier.”

Quader said one commissioner can differ with others in opinion but he (Mahbub Talukder) is taking the EC’s internal issues outside the commission
which cannot be acceptable. The AL general secretary said at present Mahbub Talukder is echoing BNP’s tune and he might take a side to make such comments.

The minister urged the EC to be more strict in holding the polls in a free, fair, neutral and peaceful manner. Law enforcement agencies are now under the EC and the commission can take steps against those who are out to destroy the election environment, he said.
