DHAKA, – Awami League publicity and publication secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud has said Awami League is not doing anything to destroy the politics of BNP, rather its leader fugitive criminal Tarique Rahman is destroying the BNP’s politics from London.

“Actually, BNP didn’t take part in the last general elections though it gave nominations to the candidates . . . They did only nomination business,” he said, addressing a public rally in London yesterday (Wednesday), organized by Awami League, United Kingdom unit, said a press release here today.

Dr Hasan, also the information minister, said Tarique Rahman is doing BNP’s politics through Skype and delivering political speech which is illegal as per the court order.

Terming Tarique Rahman a convicted criminal, he hoped that the British government will cooperate with the Bangladesh government to bring back him (Tarique).

Highlighting different development projects of the government, the minister said Bangladesh has now become a role model before the world for its tremendous development in every sector of society.

He said Bangladesh had once drawn the attention of world media for natural disasters and it was considered one of the poverty-stricken countries in the world.

“Now there is no scope to call Bangladesh a poor country as it has already attained the status of a lower-middle income country and it will turn into a middle income one within a few years,” he added.

He said Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is different among the world leaders as she is the first who introduced allowances for the poor widows and divorced women.

Replying to a question, Dr Hasan said the government is working relentlessly to reach the smart cards and other civic services to the people easily.

Advocate Saifuzzaman Shikhor, MP, AL Deputy Publicity and Publication Secretary Aminul Islam Amin, Sylhet AL district unit general secretary Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury and joint secretary Noimuddin Riaz, among others, addressed the meeting.

AL UK unit president Sultan Sharif presided over the meeting while its general secretary Syed Sazidur Rahman Faruque conducted it.
