80MW power grid station installed in Sylhet

Sylhet  – Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) has installed a power grid station with the capacity of 80 megawatts at Charkhai of the district aiming to boost power supply in Zakiganj, Beanibazar and Kanaighat upazilas.

“From now on, the power outage will reduce and clients will get uninterrupted power supply,” said Sylhet Palli Bidyut Samity-1 Managing Director Engineer Md Mahbubul Alam.

He also said three switching centres have been installed in order to ensure uninterrupted supply. “The power grid sub-station at Beanibazar has been constructed at a cost of Taka 33.38 crore,” Project Director of Charkhai Grid Station Shafiullah said.

“It was introduced in a test basis on June 12 … After some mechanical error examinations, necessary steps will be taken to start the work in a full swing,” he added.

Apart from this, transmission line and tower have been installed to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply so that local people can get rid of load-shedding, he added.

According to Sylhet Palli Bidyut Samity sources, Fenchugonj, Gulapgonj, Jaintiapur upazilas had already been brought under cent percent electrification this year while South Surma will be covered within the next
two months.

The Power Development Board (PDB) provides electricity to Sylhet city and the adjacent areas, while Sylhet Palli Bidyut Samity-1 supplies electricity to eight upazilas and Sylhet Palli Bidyut Samity-2 to five upazilas. These 13 upazilas have around four lakh consumers, the sources added.

At present, the district has two power sub-stations at Kumargaon and Fenchuganj. Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) started construction work of the station on March, 2016.
