Army chief pays farewell call on President

DHAKA – Chief of Army Staff General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq made a farewell call on President M Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban this afternoon.

“It was a farewell call,” President’s Press Secretary Md Joynal Abedin told BSS.

During the meeting, the Army Chief expressed his gratitude to the President for extending necessary guidance and cooperation in discharging his duties.

The President, also the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, thanked the outgoing army chief for carrying out his assignment properly during his tenure.

“The image of Bangladesh Army has brightened across the world during his (Huq) tenure,” Abedin quoted the President as saying.

President Hamid said Bangladesh Army, which was formed with the spirit of the 1971 Liberation War, is the country’s pride.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Aziz Ahmed, who will be promoted as a General and will take over the charge as the Army Chief on June 25 (tomorrow) for next three years, according to a gazette notification of the Ministry of
Defence issued on June 18.
