The main difference between government employees and non-government people was the pension, which was eliminated after the introduction of the Universal Pension Scheme. People must be smart to build a smart Bangladesh and live smartly. An important aspect of this smart Bangladesh formation is the universal pension scheme.

Secretary, FID, Ministry of Finance Sheikh Mohammad Salim Ullah said this while addressing as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony for the inclusion of all employees of the organization in the Universal Pension Scheme, organized by the non-governmental organization People’s Oriented Program Implementation (POPI) at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital on Monday, a press release said.

He appealed to everyone to participate in the scheme and encouraged others to join as well.

Kabirul Ezdani Khan, Executive Chairman of the National Pension Scheme, mentioned that a social safety net would be created if the universal pension is implemented in all spheres. There is no tension if there is a pension. Currently, there are 1 crore 20 lakh elderly people. By 2040, this number will exceed 3 crores. This pension scheme will provide security for this large number of people.

He also said that every year, the government borrows from people’s savings deposits but ensures timely payment to customers. The Universal Pension Scheme is a transparent process where a client’s information is fully updated.

MRA’s Executive Vice-Chairman Md. Fashiullah said that, similar to the country’s Metrorail and Karnaphuli Tunnel, another milestone of the current government is the National Pension Scheme.

POPI’s Executive Director Murshed Alam Sarkar delivered the welcome speech on the occasion, while Chairman of the Executive Committee of POPI Ayub Ali gave the closing speech.

Officials of POPI mentioned that POPI is working nationwide as a national development organization. Currently, the organization is working in 33 districts across the country, employing a total of 3,985 persons at various levels. To provide future assurance to these employees, POPI has joined the National Pension Scheme.
