Junior Chamber International (JCI) Dhaka West and BASIS Institute of Technology and Management (BITM) have been jointly contributed a project to impart ICT education to underprivileged Madrasa students in the society.

30 madrasah students have been given certificates in the first phase of this program called ‘Project White Cap’. On this occasion, a colorful program was organized at BASIS office in the capital on Saturday (September 17).

JCI Dhaka West President Md. Altamis Nabil, BITM CEO Talukder Mohammad Shabbir, BASIS Director Tanvir Hossain Khan, BASIS Advisory Committee Member and WP Developer Founder M Asif Rahman and BASIS Executive Director Abu Issa Mohammad Mainuddin were present as guests. Besides, project director of Project White Cap and Secretary General of JCI Dhaka West Nur Mohammad Ali Nipun, project lead Saddam Hosen, Coordinator Tanvir Hasan participated in it.

Speakers in the event highlighted a recent study showed that the total number of madrasa students in Bangladesh is about one and an half crore and approximately 75 percent of them are still unemployed in various forms, because they do not have the opportunity to engage in the current job market of the country based on their education and skills. In this era of technological revolution, it is almost impossible to join the competitive job market without ICT education.

It is also reported that since the existing structure of the madrasa education system rarely meets the requirements of providing this opportunity for all, imparting basic ICT education to students can make a big difference. In that context, JCI Dhaka West and BITM initially launched this project with young madrasa students across the country.

It is learned that the shortlisted participants in this white cap scheme are imparted knowledge in multiple courses of individual computer related soft skills and mentorship as well as income opportunities are being provided to the excellent students.

About the project, the current president of JCI Dhaka West Md. Altamis Nabil said, ‘Project White Cap is our small effort as part of creating Digital Bangladesh. In the future, under trainers and training, we have focused on enhancing the ICT skills of Madrasa teachers so that more Madrasa students can be exposed to the light of ICT education.

BITM CEO Talukder Mohammad Shabbir said BITM is proud to be associated with this initiative as part of its CSR activities. Through this project we have tried to contribute to the UN SDG goal of achieving quality education.

30 madrasa students under 21 years across the country got the opportunity to do this 3-month course on full scholarship. At the end of the ceremony, each of them was given a certificate.
