Hilsa fish festival gets momentum in Munshiganj

MUNSHIGANJ,  – The Hilsa fish festival, which is being held at the bank of Padma River near Shimulia ferry ghat in the district, has already got momentum, drawing mammoth public attention.

Munshiganj-3 constituency lawmaker Sagufta Yasmin Emily inaugurated the festival at a function on Friday. The festival draws huge crowds, triggers hilsha fish lovers to come and buy amid festive mood.

The visitors were overwhelmed to have a look at such event at the bank of Padma River that has a multiple varieties of hilsha. Due to the high demand of Hilsa, a record amount of the national fish is being supplied to the Shimulia ghat this time which made all stakeholders including fishermen, wholesaler, storekeeper and local people much happy.

A total of twenty stalls were set up in the festival. Managing Director and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Abul Kalam Azad, Chairman of the National Skills Development Authority to the Prime Minister’s Office Dulal Krishna Saha, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) President Omar Faruque, its ex President Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul and Louhajang Upazila Chairman Alhaj Md Osman Gani Talukdar also spoke in the programme as special guests.

With the Convener of the Festival Organizing Committee and General Secretary of ‘Projonmo Bikrampur’ Mir Nasir Uddin Uzzal in the chair, it was also attended, among others, by Louhajang Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abdul Awal, District Fisheries Officer Shamsul Karim, District Bar Association President Advocate Mohammad Ali and BFUJ Executive Member Nure Jannat Akter Sima.
