Special feature titled "The Architect of the Next Generation of Modern Healthcare" highlights LABAID's story of technology-driven cancer care and healthcare transformation

LABAID Cancer Hospital & Super Specialty Center and its Managing Director, Sakif Shamim, have been featured in a special feature published alongside TIME Magazine's globally renowned "The 100 Most Influential People in Artificial Intelligence." The feature, titled “LABAID Cancer Hospital: The Architect of the Next Generation of Modern Healthcare,” details the institution's transformation toward technology-driven healthcare and precision oncology under Shamim's leadership.

The feature spotlights LABAID's initiatives in genomic-guided oncology, liquid biopsy, multidisciplinary tumour boards, advanced radiation technology, and artificial intelligence-based healthcare solutions. Through these technologies and integrated treatment systems, the institution is working to deliver more precise, personalized, and data-driven cancer care for patients.

“Our goal is to bring together genomic, proteomic, and metabolic data to create more precise, adaptive, and personalized treatment strategies for every patient,” said Sakif Shamim. Under his leadership, LABAID has undertaken an initiative to build a strong platform for technology-driven, precision oncology care across South Asia.

The feature also outlines LABAID's plans to use its long-term electronic medical records as a key resource for research and machine learning. Alongside this, LABAID's proprietary AI system, LUNA, is helping physicians make decisions by analyzing complex clinical information, while also playing a role in identifying future health risks.

To extend advanced healthcare across the country, LABAID is building a technology-enabled hub-and-spoke model, with plans for digital connectivity, electronic medical records, and integrated treatment protocols linking the central hospital with various satellite centers. In parallel, LifePlus Bangladesh's predictive AI platform and LABAID InsurTech's AI-assisted insurance claim processing are advancing efforts to make healthcare simpler, faster, and more patient-centered.

On the international front, LABAID has built partnerships with global institutions including Mount Sinai, Singapore General Hospital, Siemens, and GE. These collaborations aim to further expand Bangladesh's capacity in advanced clinical care, research, and clinical trials.

LABAID also views human resource development as a critical part of this transformation. Through collaborations with State University of Bangladesh and State College of Health Sciences, the organization has launched initiatives to build a skilled workforce in oncology nursing, medical physics, and healthcare data management.

Over the next five years, LABAID plans to expand its bed capacity to 3,500, while growing its current revenue of approximately $200 million to $500–600 million.

“I want to be part of a sustainable healthcare system that maintains a balance between advanced technology, clinical research, accessibility, and human care,” said Sakif Shamim. “Our goal is for cancer treatment decisions to be based on medical need and urgency, rather than financial constraints.”

This international feature by TIME Magazine has drawn global attention not only to LABAID's technology-driven healthcare transformation, but also to the broader potential of healthcare innovation and AI-enabled medical care in Bangladesh.
