One of Bangladesh’s most popular web series, Mohanagar, has kept audiences waiting for its third instalment since the second season concluded in 2023. That wait may finally be coming to an end. On his birthday, director Ashfaque Nipun hinted that work on the third season of Mohanagar is moving forward.
On Wednesday morning, Nipun posted a video on social media marking his birthday. At the beginning of the video, he thanked everyone for their wishes and asked those who had not yet wished him to do so. He then ended the video with a surprise remark: “Anyway, let me finish the script now. I don’t have much time.”
What script is Nipun working on? The director himself offered a clue. He sang the familiar intro music of the Mohanagar series in his own voice. This immediately sparked speculation that work on Mohanagar 3 is about to begin in full swing. However, Nipun has yet to reveal when filming will start or which actors will be part of the new season.
The first two seasons of the series, released on the OTT platform Hoichoi, earned Mosharraf Karim widespread popularity for his portrayal of police officer Harun. He is reportedly set to reprise the role in the third season as well. Meanwhile, West Bengal actor Anirban Bhattacharya may appear as a special surprise in the new season.
Discussions about Mohanagar 3 have been ongoing since the release of the second season. At various points, questions arose over whether the third season would actually be made. Hoichoi Bangladesh country director Shakib Ar Khan previously said that the new season was stuck at the discussion stage due to budget-related complications. He had also hinted that Mohanagar 3 could potentially be developed as a feature film rather than a series.
Director Ashfaque Nipun had also said that the fate of Mohanagar 3 would ultimately depend on the OTT platform and the production company.
