Rangpur division records 35.43pc Covid-19 positivity rate

RANGPUR,  – Rangpur division recorded 35.43 percent Covid-19 positivity rate as 124 fresh cases were reported after testing 350 newly collected samples of all eight districts in the division today.

“The Covid-19 positivity rate continues showing a mostly steady trend with a little variation in recent days in the division,” Focal Person of Covid-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui told BSS.

Earlier, the daily positivity rates were 22.37 percent on Monday, 25.54 percent on Sunday, 24.48 percent on Saturday, 18.84 percent on Friday, 24.78 percent on Thursday and 30.44 percent on Wednesday last in the division.

Among the 124 new patients, 75 were reported positive after diagnosing 162 newly collected samples at the Covid-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city at the highest ever daily positivity rate of 46.30 percent today.

“The 75 new patients include 42 from Rangpur, 14 from Kurigram, 13 from Gaibandha and six from Lalmonirhat districts,” Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu told BSS at 6:40 pm.

On the other hand, 49 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the Covid-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur at the daily positivity rate of 26.06 percent today.

“The 49 new Covid-19 infected patients include 32 from Dinajpur, six from Thakurgaon, four from Panchagarh and seven from Nilphamari districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain said.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr Md Motaharul Islam said the number of Covid-19 patients climbed to 49,181 as 124 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

“The district-wise break up of 49,181 patients now stands at 11,163 in Rangpur, 3,130 in Panchagarh, 4,014 in Nilphamari, 2,453 in Lalmonirhat, 4,094 in Kurigram, 6,608 in Thakurgaon, 13,479 in Dinajpur and 4,240 in Gaibandha of the division,” he said.
