Actor Ranveer Singh’s zombie thriller Pralay, originally scheduled to shoot in Australia, is now being shifted to Mumbai. India Today has learnt that the change in plans comes as the actor is keen to stay close to wife Deepika Padukone as the couple prepares to embrace parenthood for the second time.

A source close to the development told India Today that the 41-year-old actor did not want to be away from Deepika during this phase, prompting the makers to rework the shooting plan. The production is now making arrangements to accommodate the schedule in Mumbai.

“Ranveer wants to be around Deepika as they embrace parenthood for the second time. He doesn’t want to be away and hence the production is making arrangements to shift the schedule here in the city,” the source said.

The decision, however, is not driven by personal commitments alone. The source added that the Pralay team was also unable to secure permissions to shoot at certain locations in Australia. With both factors at play, the makers and Ranveer unanimously decided that shifting the schedule to Mumbai would be the most practical way forward.

India Today has left a text to one of the producers, Hansal Mehta, for a comment and is awaiting comments on the same.

The development marks a change from the film’s original shooting plan. The Jai Mehta directorial was expected to have a significant schedule in Australia as part of its large-scale production. The film is mounted as a VFX-heavy genre project and is set against a post-apocalyptic backdrop.

According to earlier reports, Pralay revolves around a married couple fighting for survival in a dystopian Mumbai. The film is expected to mark Ranveer’s first outing in the zombie-survival genre and is reportedly being mounted on a budget of around Rs 300 crore.

The shift to Mumbai is therefore also a significant logistical change for the production. The makers can now continue work on the film while allowing Ranveer to remain closer to his family during an important personal milestone.

Meanwhile, Ranveer and Deepika welcomed their daughter Dua in September 2024. The couple later announced their second pregnancy earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Pralay continues to be in pre-production, with the makers keeping details of the film’s story and scale closely guarded. The film is directed by Jai Mehta, son of filmmaker Hansal Mehta, and is among the projects in Ranveer’s after Dhurandhar lineup.
