Actor Ashraful Haque Don, known for playing villainous roles in Bangladeshi films, was arrested on Sunday in connection with the murder case of popular actor Salman Shah.

Don was arrested at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around noon and later handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), according to reliable airport sources.

Salman Shah, whose real name was Chowdhury Mohammad Shahriar, died 29 years ago. His death, initially recorded as an unnatural death, was turned into a murder case last year following a court order.

After a prolonged legal battle, Salman Shah’s maternal uncle and film director Alimger Hossain Kunkum filed the case with Ramna Police Station in Dhaka on October 21 last year.

The case names 11 people as accused, including Salman Shah’s wife Samira Haque, mother-in-law Latifa Haque Lucy, businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai, owner of Olympic Industries, and actor Mohammad Ashraful Haque, alias Don.

Three others,David, Javed and Faruk, were also named as accused, with their addresses listed as the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) in Dhaka.

The other accused are Rezvi Ahmed of Faridpur; Ruby; A Sattar; and Saju. Several unidentified people have also been named in the case.
