

High Commission of Maldives
The Government of the Maldives has expressed strong interest in recruiting more Bangladeshi doctors, therapists, nurses, and healthcare professionals for its government hospitals and healthcare institutions.
At the same time, the Maldives has also shown keen interest in importing high-quality pharmaceutical products directly from Bangladesh through a government-to-government mechanism.
The interest was conveyed during a courtesy meeting between the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the Maldives, H.E. Dr. Md. Nazmul Islam, and the Honourable Minister of Health of the Republic of Maldives, Ms. Geela Ali, held at the Ministry of Health in Malé.

Senior officials of the Maldivian Ministry of Health were also present during the meeting, which took place in a warm and cordial atmosphere.
A press release issued by the Bangladesh High Commission in the Maldives today confirmed the details of the meeting.
During the meeting, Health Minister Geela Ali informed that the Maldivian healthcare sector is nedeed of therapists and other specialised healthcare professionals. She stated that approximately fifty therapists are urgently required to maintain and strengthen healthcare services in government hospitals across the country.
Praising the professionalism, expertise, and dedication of Bangladeshi healthcare workers, the Minister remarked that “the Government of the Maldives is highly interested in recruiting more doctors and therapists from Bangladesh.”
In response, High Commissioner Dr. Md. Nazmul Islam assured the Minister that the matter regarding the recruitment of Bangladeshi therapists and healthcare professionals is already being actively pursued with the relevant authorities in Bangladesh.
He expressed optimism that a group of qualified Bangladeshi healthcare professionals would soon join the Maldivian healthcare sector.
During the discussions, the Maldivian Health Minister also highly appreciated the remarkable progress achieved by Bangladesh in the pharmaceutical sector and expressed strong interest in importing quality medicines directly from Bangladesh under a government-to-government arrangement.
The Minister further informed that a high-level Maldivian delegation is expected to visit Bangladesh soon to assess the international standards and production capacity of Bangladeshi pharmaceutical industries.
Both sides also emphasized the importance of renewing and strengthening the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on health cooperation between Bangladesh and the Maldives to make bilateral cooperation more effective and mutually beneficial.
Health Minister Geela Ali expressed appreciation to the Government of Bangladesh for providing medical internship opportunities to Maldivian students in Bangladesh.
In this context, High Commissioner Dr. Md. Nazmul Islam informed that the Government of Bangladesh currently offers seven fully funded scholarships for Maldivian students under the South Asian regional quota scheme.
He encouraged Maldivian students to take advantage of Bangladesh’s internationally recognised and affordable medical education system.
During the meeting, the Maldivian Health Minister also commended the socio-economic contributions of Bangladeshi expatriate workers residing in the Maldives. She further noted that the Maldivian health authorities continue to provide humanitarian medical assistance, including ICU and other costly emergency treatments, to undocumented Bangladeshi nationals in the Maldives.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening strategic cooperation in the health sector and further deepening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the Maldives.
The Bangladesh High Commission in the Maldives stated that it would continue to closely coordinate the recruitment process as well as initiatives relating to pharmaceutical cooperation between the two countries.
