The Basurhat municipal area and Companiganj have once again heated up due to political disputes, and panic has spread throughout the district. A Jubo League activist named Alauddin was shot dead in a clash between two rival factions of the Awami League shortly after the killing of journalist Muzakkir.

Hundreds were injured, including 13 who were shot. Among them are Basurhat Municipality Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza and Companiganj Police Station OC Mir Zahidul Haque Rony. The upazila administration has issued section 144 from morning till 12 noon yesterday to deal with the situation.
It is learned that due to the previous dispute, Basurhat municipal mayor Quader Mirza and district Awami League general secretary Ekramul Karim Chowdhury, chased each other on Tuesday. In the evening it turned into a terrible clash. At this stage, the supporters of Badal group attacked the supporters of Quader Mirza inside Basurhat municipality. The shootings took place at this time. At least 13 people from both groups were shot and more than 100 were injured in the incident. Among the injured are Mayor Quader Mirza and Police OC Mir Zahidul Haque Rony.

The party leaders and activists alleged that the attack led by Badal was carried out on Quader Mirza with the intention of killing him. Juba League activist Imam Uddin, a supporter of Quader Mirza who was injured in the hospital, said, “We were sitting in the mayor’s office.” At that time, more than a hundred people led by Badal fired at us. Many of us were injured.

Meanwhile, 11 seriously injured people were taken to Noakhali General Hospital where a Jubo League activist named Dr Alauddin was declared dead.
Meanwhile, former upazila chairman Mizanur Rahman Badal claimed Alauddin as his worker and said, “Alauddin’s house is in my area.” Mirza’s people killed him because we were supporters.

On the other hand, rejecting Badal’s demand, Mayor Abdul Quader Mirza said, “Badal’s words are false, Alauddin is my worker. I want justice by arresting the killers.

Meanwhile, the upazila administration has issued section 144 in Basurhat area to control the situation. Additional police have been deployed. Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Tuesday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck. 28 people have been arrested in the police operation.

Noakhali Superintendent of Police Alamgir Hossain said on Wednesday afternoon that the administration was ready to deal with any incident. Family members have been asked to file a case against Alauddin. In case of a case, legal action will be taken against the culprits.
