Four shops fined Tk 2 lakh in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI  – Four shops were fined Taka two lakh here yesterday on charges of manufacturing and selling unhygienic and sub-standard food items.

A team of Department of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) conducted a raid in Keshorehat Bazar area under Mohanpur upazila in the district.

The team found the shops named MR Enterprise, Narayan Stores, Sotota Enterprise and Abul Stores involved in preparing, possessing and selling consumer items in unhygienic condition.

Subsequently, the team fined the shop owners Tk one lakh, Tk 50,000, Tk 30,000 and Tk 20,000 respectively.

During the drive, goods including 20,000 packets of biscuits and 100 packets of cigarettes worth around Taka 37.08 lakh were destroyed. Apurba Adhikary, Assistant Director of DNCRP, said such drive against the violations
of consumers’ rights would be continued in the days to come.
