TBT REPORT: Popular model and actress Shahnaz Sumi. Although her career is not long, she has caught everyone's attention by acting in movies and dramas. Apart from drama telefilms, this actress is also working regularly for OTT platforms. Vicky Zaheed's web film 'ONDHOKAR ER GAAN' will be released today on Binge.
It stars Shahnaz Sumi with Musharraf Karim, Zakia Bari Momo. The Bangladesh Today correspondent spoke to Sumi about this film and other topics.
After 'Mobaraknama' in 2023, 'ONDHOKAR ER GAAN' in early 2025. Why did you not find any content in the middle of a year?
"Mobaraknama" was released in December 2023. The whole year of 2024 had an effect. Meanwhile, I was preparing for another job. Those that are happening, they are happening with some time. 'ONDHOKAR ER GAAN' is included in it.
It also took time. As a result, nothing else was done. The teaser has already been released.
The film was release on Wednesday. What do you say to the audience?
Ever since the release of the teaser, I have been getting a lot of response.The viewer has a belief that the work will be good. Here are director Vicky Zaheed, my colleague Musharraf Karim, Momo, Monira Mithu, Abul Hayat. All of them have created a place of trust from the viewers with their work.
The works that I have done have also been appreciated. Considering that, this film can do justice to the faith of the audience. Everyone will like it.
What is your character here and how is the story?
Here my name is Shapla, garment worker. The story is a mixture of happy and dark days. From there, the happy and dark side of Shapla's life emerges, the audience will be able to understand it very well.
How was your experience working with Musharraf Karim?
The experience is very nice. I did two jobs back to back with him. I tried to understand him in 'Mobaraknama'. Everyone says he is an institute. I was actually trying to see how much I could take from him, how much chemistry between his character and mine could match. In 'ONDHOKAR ER GAAN' that effort has become more intense. I tried to act in harmony with him. Now I know Musharraf, I have got an idea about his acting style. I have also understood about place of acting with co-artists. It will be easier to act with him in the future.
Earlier heard about acting in a film, what about that?
Pre-production work is still going on. Films, web films, web series—they take time to materialize. It takes a lot of time to create the story, it also takes time to get into the character. When the work comes, people will understand why it took so long. I want to give something good to the audience.
You are a dancing person. But you are rarely found in dance. Why is that?
It's true I like dancing a lot. I practice every day, so that I can use it when the opportunity comes. A few days ago, I danced at an award ceremony. I was very happy with the reaction of the audience. In our country, the scope of dance is less. We who are professional dancers are also rarely found dancing.
You became popular all over the country with the advertisement of 'Jasmine Coconut Oil'. After that, you are not seen in such advertisements.
That advertisement is from 2017. As viral means (in the positive sense), that's what happened. The advertisement made me popular all over the country. But this type of advertisement is less in Bangladesh. I don't even know if there has been any ad that has gone positively viral after that.
