Rangpur District Nutrition Coordination Committee holds bi-monthly meeting

The 5th meeting of the District Nutrition Coordination Committee was held on Monday at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Rangpur in accordance with the health-regulation prescribed by the government.

The meeting was chaired by Md. Asib Ahsan, Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur. Dr. Hiramb Kumar Roy, Member Secretary and Civil Surgeon, District Nutrition Coordination Committee, Rangpur presented the published Annual Nutrition Action Plan for the financial year 2019-2020.
In the district nutrition action plan, a total budget of 155 crore 96 lakh 33 thousand taka was observed against the activities taken by various departments of the government. At the meeting, the DC drew the attention of all to ensure the representation of all departments in the Annual District Nutrition Action Plan for the current financial year (2020-2021) and in continuation of this, he drew the attention of the Member Secretary to prepare the Upazila level based nutrition action plan along with the District Nutrition Committee by 15 September 2020.

At the end of the meeting, materials of welfare center and union sub center were distributed among the teenagers of school level at the funding of European Union funded and with the technical assistance of CARE Bangladesh and Plan International Bangladesh and implementation of ESDO, the project titled ‘Joint Action for Nutrition Outcome (JANO)’.

It is to be noted that one 32 “TV, one weight measuring machine, one height measuring machine, one bookshelf, one nutrition plate and BCC materials were distributed to the teenagers of 79 secondary schools, 14 primary schools and 21 madrasas of Taraganj, Kaunia and Gangachara upazilas of Rangpur district. Besides, 1 cover bean, 4 kg binging powder and 4 disinfectant spray bottles were distributed in 68 community clinics, 14 union health and family welfare centers and 5 union sub centers.

Representatives of JANO Project said similar distribution of materials through district and upazila nutrition coordination committees in 216 schools and 145 community clinics, 43 union health and family welfare centers and 15 union sub-centers in Sadar, Jaldhaka, Domar and Kishoreganj upazilas of Nilphamari district was done.

At the occasion, Md. Akhtaruzzaman, Deputy Director, Secondary and Higher Education, Rangpur Region, Jamini Kumar Roy, Program Coordinator (Development), ESDO, journalists, representatives of CARE Bangladesh, Plan International Bangladesh and ESDO along with the members of the District Nutrition Coordination Committee were also present.
