Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon today said traders in his area will have to sell onion at the price fixed by the government, otherwise, actions will be taken against them.

“Special drives will go on in DSCC area in order to keep the onion price stable,” the mayor said while visiting Palashi kitchen market this noon.

Executive magistrates of DSCC launched special drives through mobile courts today in order to curb the price hike of onion, said Uttam Kumar Roy, public relations officer of DSCC.

“The drives will go on until the prices returns to normal. We will bring the market under control through strict monitoring,” the mayor further said.

If any wholesale dealers are found stocking onions now, actions will be taken against him, the mayor also warned with an expectation that the onion price will go down within the people’s purchase capacity soon.

He also urged the people to buy only the necessary amount of onions to avert pressure on the supply.

TCB has started open market sales (OMS) of onion at Tk 45 per kilogramme across the country from September 30, but the government has not fixed any price of onion yet.
