AL with govt stands beside flood-hit people: Nanak

RANGPUR, – Joint General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League (AL) Jahangir Kabir Nanak has said AL and the government are standing beside flood-hit people and working together to mitigate their miseries in affected areas.

“The government is providing succors to every flood-hit person and none will starve,” Nanak said this to journalists while distributing relief goods among flood-hit people at different places of Ulipur and Chilmari upazilas of Kurigram on Monday afternoon.

The relief goods were distributed among flood-hit people of the two upazilas on behalf of AL and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as a part of their countrywide relief activities during the current deluge.

Nanak said thousands of people of Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Gaibandha and other northern districts are in indescribable miseries due to floods when AL and the government are working together to reduce their sufferings.

He said the authorities concerned have been instructed to cope with difficult time of affected people who might suffer from various diseases after recession of floodwater and during their post-flood rehabilitation.
“I will request the aid and donor agencies and political parties to come forward to stand beside flood-affected people,” he said.

“But it is very much unfortunate that a particular party only criticizes the government without performing its political and social duties and responsibilities,’ Nanak mentioned.
Organising Secretary of AL’s central committee BM Mozammel Haque, its Health and Population Affairs Secretary Dr. Rokeya Sultana, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Md. Zakir Hossain, MP, Kurigram District Council Chairman Md. Jafar Ali and Deputy Commissioner of Kurigram Sultana Pervin were present.
