LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan today expressed his optimism that the traditional boat race of rural Bengal will play an important role in reviving the bonds of unity, harmony and joy among people.
He made the remarks while addressing a traditional boat race 2026 inauguration ceremony at Joshar Bazar in Shibpur upazila here.
Khan underscored the need for expanding sports and cultural activities for proper mental growth of new generation.
Recalling the joy he experienced as a child watching boat races on the Buriganga River in Dhaka, he said much of that simple joy has been lost over time due to social changes and complexities.
He hoped such traditional events would help bring back that joy and strengthen mutual harmony among people.
Narsingdi-3 constituency MP Manzur Elahi chaired the event while Narsingdi-1 constituency MP Khairul Kabir Khokon inaugurated the boat race.
