Bangladesh produced a dominant performance in the sixth round of the 46thFIDE Chess Olympiad is now being held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan defeating Syria 4–0 game points in the Open section.
In the matches played on yesterday (Monday), International Master Mohammad Fahad Rahman, International Master ManonRejaNeer, FIDE Master Tahsin Tajwar Zia and FIDE Master SaklineMostafaSajid secured convincing victories for Bangladesh. They defeated Syria’s FIDE Master ChekhAdmKhedr Aram, FIDE Master FandiMazen, Rodi Bakr and International Master AlzaimTalal, respectively.
The Bangladesh women’s team, however, went down 1–3 to a strong Croatia side in the sixth round.
Women FIDE Master NoshinAnjum and Women Candidate Master NusratJahanAlo held their respective opponents to draws. Noshin drew with Croatia’s Women FIDE Master TihanaIvekovic, while Nusrat shared the point with Women International Master Kristina Saric.
Bangladesh suffered defeats on the other two boards, with Women International Master Wadifa Ahmed losing to FIDE Master EnaCvitan and Women Candidate Master Walijah Ahmed going down to Woman FIDE Master Lara Zagorac.
After six rounds, Bangladesh have accumulated 8 points in the Open section, while the women’s team have collected 6 points.
Tuesday is the designated rest day at the Olympiad. Bangladesh will return to action on Wednesday in the seventh round, with the Open team set to face Georgia and the women’s team taking on Hong Kong.
Mutual Trust Bank (MTB), as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, has provided financial assistance to Bangladesh’s Open and Women’s teams participating in the Chess Olympiad in Samarkand.
