Humaiun seeks Algeria’s fertilizer cooperation for food security

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir today stressed the importance of strengthening fertilizer cooperation with Algeria to help ensure Bangladesh’s food security.

He made the remarks when Algerian Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdelouahab Saidani paid a courtesy call on him at the foreign ministry here, according to a ministry press release.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on ways to further strengthen bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Algeria.

Kobir reaffirmed the longstanding friendship and growing cooperation between the two countries and underscored the importance of collaboration in the fertilizer sector to support Bangladesh's food security.

He also sought enhanced cooperation with Algeria in the energy sector to help ensure Bangladesh's long-term energy security.

The two sides discussed opportunities to expand cooperation in trade, investment, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, shipbuilding and people-to-people contacts.

The state minister underscored the importance of greater people-to-people exchanges and stressed the need for high-level visits to further deepen the partnership between the two countries.

The Algerian ambassador congratulated Kobir on his assumption of office and expressed his country's interest in enhancing cooperation with Bangladesh in energy, pharmaceuticals, fertilizer, shipbuilding and maritime shipping.

He also expressed interest in promoting high-level visits to further strengthen the existing bilateral relations.
