Chinese envoy makes farewell call on Ismail Zabihullah

Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen today made a farewell call on Prime Minister's Adviser for Public Administration Md Ismail Zabihullah at the adviser's office at secretariat, where they discussed increasing mutual contacts and advancing bilateral relations between the countries.

During the meeting, the Public Administration Adviser said China is one of Bangladesh's largest trade and investment partners. Cooperation between the two countries has expanded beyond trade and investment to various areas, including education, technology, human resource development, administration and knowledge exchange.

He said China's cooperation is important for Bangladesh's sustainable development. Through increased joint research, technology and skills exchange, and cultural contacts, mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of the two countries can be further deepened, he added.

The Chinese ambassador said Bangladesh-China relations have further strengthened following visits to China by delegations from Bangladesh at various levels recently.

He also said that Bangladesh-China relations have reached a new height, particularly following the visit of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to China.

The ambassador expressed the view that a systematic, specific and planned training programme could be arranged in Bangladesh under the initiative of the China-Bangladesh Friendship Society to further strengthen Bangladesh-China friendship.

The programme could provide training opportunities for leaders of various political parties in Bangladesh. This, he said, would increase communication and mutual understanding between the political parties of the two countries.

The ambassador also referred to the memorandum of understanding signed between the Chinese Communist Party and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and stressed the need to further enhance cooperation between the two parties.

Officials of the Chinese Embassy were present at the meeting.
