Barrister Sarwat Siraj Shukla saddened by Jamaat’s 50,000 votes in significant Liberation War zone Kalihati

A guardian rally, distribution of annual prizes and sports equipment among the students of Elenga High School in Kalihati Upazila of Tangail were held on Saturday on the school premises.

Barrister Sarwat Siraj Shukla, President of the Bangladesh Women's Sports Association, attended the event as the chief guest. Md. Mozammel Haque Hero, President of the Elenga High School Managing Committee, presided over the functon.

Speaking as the chief guest, Barrister Sarwat Siraj Shukla addressed the recent long-march program, noting that the event had disrupted traffic and caused public suffering. She emphasized the need to consider the hardships of ordinary citizens when carrying out political programs.

Mentioning that there are approximately 1,100 freedom fighters in Kalihati Upazila, Barrister Sarwat Siraj Shukla said, "Kalihati is a significant area in the history of the Liberation War; many heroic freedom fighters were born here." "Yet, the fact that Jamaat-e-Islami secured over 50,000 votes in this upazila has saddened me."

She further added, "Kalihati is home to so many freedom fighters, and its people share such a deep bond with the Liberation War. I urge you to ensure that those politically identified as anti-liberation elements or linked to war crimes cannot gain any foothold here."

Regarding the upcoming Upazila Parishad, Union Parishad, and municipal elections, Sarwat Siraj Shukla called upon the people of Kalihati to consider the history of the Liberation War and the country's political reality when deciding whom to vote for. She expressed hope for support towards nationalist political forces and those aligned with the spirit of the Liberation War.

During the event, prizes and sports equipment were distributed among students who had excelled in various competitions.

The function was attended, among others, by the Headmaster of the school Muhammad Nazmul Karim; Makbul Hossain, President of the Elenga Bazar Merchants' Association; A. Halim Sarkar, General Secretary of the Elenga Bus Stand Market Association; Sekandar Ali Sikdar (Lebu), a lifetime donor member of the school; BNP leader Abu Taleb; and Md. Rashedul Islam Ratan, former President of the Kalihati Upazila Chhatra Dal; alongside teachers, students, guardians, and local dignitaries.
