Elina Shammi was once a familiar face on television as a presenter and also drew attention for writing drama stories and scripts. Over time, however, she has reshaped her professional identity. Today, her focus is solely on acting. Alongside television dramas, she has established herself as a professional actress through a variety of roles in films. The actress has recently returned to the spotlight after completing dubbing for two new films.
Elina Shammi made her film debut in 2014 with 71-er Ma Jononi, directed by Shah Alam Kiran. She has since acted in several films, including Priyotoma, Gontobbo, Chhayabriikkho, Madhyobitto, Jolrong, Koshai, Beauty Circus, Radio and Local. She gained particular recognition for her performances in Priyotoma and Mujib: The Making of a Nation. She also drew attention for her role in Raihan Rafi’s web film Jaanowar.
Meanwhile, she has completed dubbing for Zahid Hossain’s Leela Monju and Naziri Sagor’s Dusahosh. She will appear in important roles in both films.
Before focusing on acting, Shammi was also known as a playwright. She began writing dramas under the guidance of filmmaker Tupu Khan. She also taught at an English-medium school for three years and was recognised as the best teacher on all three occasions.
The actress is optimistic about her two upcoming films. “I am now a professional actress. I was injured in a road accident a few days ago, but I have recovered to some extent. In the meantime, I have completed dubbing for two films. I am hopeful about both projects,” she said.
