Teri Hatcher to play Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada musical

“She saw Vanessa in it and said it was great, so when the opportunity came my way she was the first person to say: ‘Oh my god, you have to do it, you’re going to have so much fun,’” Hatcher recalled.

A self-confessed “huge fan” of the original 2006 film as well as its hit sequel, Hatcher has already begun preparing for her West End debut as Miranda Priestly. She has also been in touch with Vanessa Williams, as well as Matt Henry, who plays Miranda’s colleague Nigel, ahead of taking over the role.

While Teri Hatcher is best known for her roles in Desperate Housewives and Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, she is no stranger to musical theatre. Over the years, she has taken on several notable roles, including Sally Bowles in the national tour of Sam Mendes’ revival of Cabaret and Morticia Addams in The Addams Family.

Based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel and the 2006 film, The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical, it follows journalist Andy Sachs as she lands a coveted job at Runway magazine, where she finds herself working under the demanding and formidable Miranda Priestly. The musical features music by Elton John and is produced by Kevin McCollum, David Furnish and Jamie Wilson.

The production first ran at Theatre Royal Plymouth in summer 2024 before transferring to London’s West End, where it opened at the Dominion Theatre in December 2024. Since then, the musical has sold more than 1.2 million tickets and is set to celebrate its 800th performance on September 23.

The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical is currently booking at the Dominion Theatre through September 25, 2027.
