Govt's key goal is to protect human rights, ensure rule of Law: Mahdi Amin

Prime Minister's Adviser and PM Office Spokesperson Mahdi Amin today said that the government's prime objective is
protecting human rights and ensuring the rule of law and freedom of speech in the country.

"In the past, the source of power was not the people; rather, state institutions had been used to deprive citizens of their rights. The current
government's primary goal is to establish the rule of law, protect human rights and restore freedom of speech by empowering the people," he said.

He made the remarks while addressing the "Bengal Delta Conference-2026", organized by the Dhaka Institute of Research and Analytics (DIRA), at a
capital hotel this afternoon.

Referring to political repression and atrocities committed during the past 16 years of authoritarian rule, he said the people of the country and the
largest political party, BNP, were the worst victims of enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, custodial deaths and false cases during that period.

He said the government stands in solidarity with the grief of the affected families.

He further noted that over the past five months, not a single incident of human rights violations, political repression, custodial death or enforced disappearance had occurred.

"We are committed to maintaining this positive trend," he said."Coexistence among different political parties would be ensured through the
democratic process and those responsible for human rights violations during the previous regime would be brought to justice," he said.

He added that the government's specific goal is to ensure that no offender escapes punishment and that no innocent person is subjected to harassment.

He also said every ministry is working with specific 180-day targets to improve administrative efficiency.

He reassured that the government will ensure the rights and freedoms of every citizen.
