Fakhrul emphasizes on citizen’s awareness on cleanliness

LGRD Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said awareness about cleanliness among citizens must be increased to keep the city clean and livable.

He said, “A clean city can be built not only through the initiatives of the city corporation but also through the active participation and responsible behavior of citizens.”

The Minister made the remarks as the chief guest at a seminar titled "City Waste Management: Everyone's Responsibility- Mine and Yours."

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) organized the event at the DNCC auditorium hall.

Mirza Fakhrul said, Dhaka is the epicenter of Bangladesh's economic activities. Due to rapid urbanization, population growth, and unplanned expansion, city management is becoming increasingly complex day by day. In this situation, building citizen awareness and a sense of responsibility is extremely important.

He said that a permanent solution to Dhaka's problems is not possible without the coordinated efforts of various organizations involved in city management.

“Children must be taught about cleanliness, environmental conservation, and civic responsibility from an early age. For this, awareness-building activities need to be strengthened starting from primary schools,” he added.

The veteran BNP leader said that the government is working to restore the rivers. Initiatives have already been taken to restore the Turag River, and discussions have been held with the Prime Minister on this matter.

“Existence and sustainable future of Dhaka city largely depend on the rivers surrounding it,” he said adding that the government is working to build Dhaka as a clean, green, and livable city.

DNCC Administrator Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan presided over the event while State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam and State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque were present as special guests.
