

Special Metropolitan Magistrate of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) disposed of a total of 4,898 criminal cases and 350 traffic cases through summary trials in June.
According to DMP officials, a total of 8,873 individuals were arrested during the period, of whom 5,738 were sentenced to various terms of punishment through the summary court proceedings.
Law Officer (District and Sessions Judge) Mohammad Ataul Haque said that Motijheel, Tejgaon, Wari, Gulshan, Mirpur, Ramna, Lalbagh and Uttara Division imposed fines of Taka 16,95,650 and confiscated Taka 92,432.
He said that special magistrates and the DMP police jointly conducted 24 special operations in the metropolitan areas to control law and order in June.
The DMP’s media and public relations division issued a press release here today saying that the DMP’s Motijheel, Tejgaon, Wari, Gulshan, Mirpur, Ramna, Lalbagh and Uttara traffic divisions filed 1,283 cases in June under the Road Transport Act, 2018 for violating traffic law, he added.
It said that a total of 350 traffic cases were disposed of, with fines amounting to Tk 6,68,100.
The release said that summary trials in the Special Metropolitan Magistrate courts are conducted under the Code of Criminal Procedure for minor offenses that warrant lighter punishments.
The swift disposal of cases by magistrates is expediting judicial process, strengthening public confidence in law and containing criminal activities in the city.
