Week-long lockdown begins tomorrow in Khulna

KHULNA,  – To curb the spread of Covid-19, the week-long lockdown in the city and district will begin from tomorrow (Tuesday).

The decision was taken on June 19 at a meeting of the Khulna District Committee on Coronavirus Prevention led by Khulna Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Helal Hossain.

According to the District Committee on Coronavirus Prevention, all shops, markets, and shopping malls will remain closed except pharmacies and emergency services during the lockdown. Public transport services will also be suspended.

At least 12 people died from Covid in the past 24 hours till Monday morning at Khulna Medical College Hospital alone.

“We analyzed the trend of new cases for the last two weeks and found that the daily infection rate has been rising,” deputy commissioner Helal Hossain told BSS today.

DC Helal Hossain said Khulna General Hospital has already turned into a 70- bed corona dedicated hospital which will function from Sunday and the number of corona infection tests at PCR laboratory will be enhanced.

To succeed the week-long lock down, the Covid prevention management committee today exchanged views with KCC panel mayors and councilors at the DC’s conference room.

Chaired by the deputy commissioner Mohammad Helal Hossain, panel mayors, councilors, Awami League city unit general secretary, KMP deputy commissioner, Khulna Press Club president, among others, were present.
