Masum: A rising and talented octapad player

TBT Report:

Masum is one of the country’s talented octapad players, currently performing regularly on stage with popular music artists. Through his performances on television and live stages, he has already earned considerable recognition and praise for his musical talent.

The full name of octapad player Masum is Md. Masum Hossen. He was born and raised in Dashuria village under Ishwardi upazila of Pabna district. From an early age, he developed a strong passion for music. That is why he regularly participated in singing at various school and college programs during his childhood and teenage years.

Masum’s first formal training in instrumental music began under renowned tabla maestro Nanda Dada, who is widely respected as one of the leading tabla experts in Pabna district as well as across northern Bangladesh.

Later, in the capital Dhaka, he learned octapad playing from noted musicians Pappu Akand and Sajal Kumar Saha Mithu.

Having been involved with music since the age of just 10 to 12 years, the musician is now steadily pursuing his dreams. His aspiration is to remain actively engaged in music internationally in the future.

Speaking about his journey, the instrumentalist said that he developed a deep interest in music from a very young age. However, he was especially fascinated by tabla, which inspired him to begin learning the instrument.

He further said that after years of learning tabla, he gradually fell in love with playing the octapad. After saving money with great difficulty, he bought an octapad around 2010 and began practicing and learning seriously. “Alhamdulillah, at present I am working with many renowned music artists in Bangladesh,” he added.
