Swapon urges chartered accountants to prepare for technological challenges

Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon  has called on newly qualified chartered accountants (CAs) to stay prepared for the challenges posed by rapid technological advancements, particularly artificial intelligence (AI).

He made the remarks today while addressing the 22nd convocation ceremony of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) as the chief guest at Hotel InterContinental here.

The minister emphasized the need for adapting to the fast-changing technological landscape, noting that the modern corporate world has become highly dependent on technology.

“We’re now living in the internet era, where communication science has reached its peak. Advancements in AI and data analytics are bringing a revolutionary transformation in the accounting profession. You must embrace these challenges with courage,” he said.

He further mentioned that chartered accountants are no longer just record-keepers but serve as strategic advisors for organizations.

The minister urged them not to remain confined to academic knowledge but to stay continuously aware of the evolving technological environment.

Highlighting the importance of professional integrity, the minister said that trust is the foundation of the accounting profession.

Swapon added that CAs play a vital role in ensuring financial transparency and strengthening governance, which are essential for sustainable economic growth.

The convocation speaker, noted intellectual Prof. Dr. Salimullah Khan, described chartered accountants as “organic intellectuals” of modern society and capitalism.

He said accounting is not merely about balancing numbers but a key pillar of modern democratic civilization and economic systems.

Khan encouraged new CAs to contribute intellectually to both economic and social systems.

Speaking as a special guest, Financial Reporting Council (FRC) Chairman Md Sajjad Hossain Bhuiyan highlighted the importance of transparent accounting systems in the country’s development journey.

ICAB President N. K. A. Mobin congratulated the newly qualified Chartered Accountants and reaffirmed ICAB’s commitment to providing internationally recognized education.

He also urged new professionals to uphold the highest standards of ethics and integrity.
At this year’s convocation, certificates were awarded to candidates who passed the CA examinations between November–December 2022 and November–December 2025.

The event was attended by ICAB council members, senior officials, and family members of the graduates.
