Education should be for creating skilled manpower: Abrar

Education Adviser Professor Dr C R Abrar today said the main target of the present education system should not merely to confer degree but to develop skilled, innovative and technology friendly human resources.

The adviser made this remark while addressing as the chief guest the inaugural function of Robo Carnival at BUET.

The Education Adviser said the world is currently facing the challenge of fourth industrial revolution while the artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, data analysis and automation process are quickly changing our global economy and social condition.

So, there is no alternative to develop technological competence by the students to keep pace with this change, he said.

Abrar said robo carnival is not only an exhibition but it is a strong platform of building an outline of the future development of Bangladesh.  This event will enhance the innovative thinking and research capacity of the students.

Simultaneously, the adviser said, the event will also build effective link between research and the real application of the industrial sector.

About the main theme of the event- Robotics driven by the AI for the future Energy and Power System- the adviser said it is possible to ensure sustainable development, enforcing security and enhancing competence through using AI and robotics in the energy and power sector.

The adviser further said that by reducing dependence on the foreign technology, the country should be self-reliant through our own research and innovation.

BUET and North-West Power Generation Company Limited (NWPGCL),a state-owned power and electric company jointly organized the event.

Professor Dr CR Abrar hoped that this initiative will help to emerge future engineers and scientists who will lead the technological development of the country.
BUET vice-chancellor, concerned faculty dean, NWPGSL’s senior officials and students from different universities across the country joined the carnival.
