No security threat ahead of Feb 12 polls: Home Adviser

Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today said that the overall security situation remains stable and under control, saying there is no security threat centering the 13th parliamentary elections slated for February 12.

He categorically said that the upcoming election would be held peacefully although the fascist elements are trying to create obstacles to disrupt the election process.

“ I can assure you that the polls will be held in a free, fair, neutral and credible manner with the support of all concerned,” he added.

The Home Adviser made the remarks while briefing journalists after attending a programme marking BGB Day 2025 at the Pilkhana Headquarters here.

Responding to various queries from media about recent incidents, including bomb explosions at a madrasah, he said accomplices of the main perpetrator have already been arrested and efforts are underway to apprehend the principal culprits.

Replying to another question about possible arms intrusion ahead of the election, the Home Adviser said the Home Ministry and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) are fully prepared to ensure a peaceful election.

Jahangir said around 35,000 BGB members will be deployed during the upcoming national parliamentary election.

In this connection, he added that arms and ammunition are being seized regularly and BGB personnel have been placed on high alert to this end.

Addressing the programme marking Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Day 2025, the Home Adviser said the BGB carries a proud and glorious tradition and continues to play a pivotal role in safeguarding the country.

Describing the force as a “three-dimensional” entity, he said the BGB is actively engaged in border security, maintaining law and order, and providing public welfare services.

He reaffirmed that the government remains fully committed to the development and modernization of the force.

Emphasizing national interest, the Home Adviser asked BGB personnel to discharge their duties with utmost honesty, integrity, and vigilance.

He stressed that no drugs or illegal goods must be allowed to cross the border and that sensitive areas require heightened surveillance.

He warned that strict legal action would be taken against smugglers as well as any personnel found aiding or abetting such crimes.

Urging commanders to remain attentive to the welfare of their troops, he said protecting national interests must always remain the top priority.

The Home Adviser called for absolute loyalty to the chain of command and urged BGB members to carry out both border security and internal law-and-order duties with professionalism and dedication.

Expressing confidence in the force, he said the BGB would continue its glorious journey as the vigilant guardian of the nation’s borders and a symbol of the people’s trust, wishing all members good health and continued success in serving the country.
