RAB arrests representative of a fake Satellite TV channel

On the basis of secret information, a raid by RAB-4 captured several representatives of a fake satellite TV called “Bangabandhu Satellite TV (BSTV News 24)” from Hatirjheel and Mothijheel area on Sunday. Cameras, computers, visiting cards and banners with various stands were recovered from them.

The arrested are Shahin Khan (50), RaihanParvez (21)and Md. Rajib Hossain, (39) from Dhaka, Nur Hossain alias Nurul Islam Nahid (36) and Md. Riyad Mahmud (24) from Shariatpur, Md. RimonParvez (28) from Gazipur, Md. ZainulAbedin (55) and Ayub Khan (30) from Netrokona, Md. Akbar Hossain (39) from Narayanganj, ImrulKayech alias Fayez (25) fromPatuakhali.

Preliminary interrogation revealed that the fraudsters had been harassing educated unemployed and innocent youth for a long time by illegally recruiting on behalf of unauthorized online fake satellite TV channel “Bangabandhu Satellite TV (BSTV News24)”.

They were embezzling large sums of money. It is learned that the fraudsters have appointed special representatives in different districts to recruit reporters as a ploy to defraud them.

They themselves were using well-known and expensive brand cars and editing cars of various organizations through Photoshop, using the so-called logo of “Bangabandhu Satellite TV (BST News 24) channel” and promoting attractive advertisements for the recruitment of reporters through social media. With the help of alluring advertisements, they used to extort BDT 15,000-25,000 per person from the victims who approached him in good faith for employment.

They also have various associates at the field level for this program. This was stated by RAB-4 Commanding Officer Additional DIG Mozammel Haque in a press conference on Monday.

He added that Md. Shahin Khan (50), who studied up to SSC, started his career in 2003 in Motijheel area as a travel agency business as well as a distributor of Baby Foods.

He has also traveled to about 12 countries around the world to send people abroad. By establishing an unapproved online based satellite TV channel “Bangabandhu Satellite TV (BSTV News24)” in 2020, he took 12-25 thousand taka per person from job seekers. Md. Shahin Khan was appointed as the managing director and Md. Nur Hossain Nahid as the director of the organization.

Many victims would come to his home and office every day to demand their money back, and he would drive them away with his own weapons, intimidating and threatening them.

There are several cases in the name of Shahin Khan in different police stations of Dhaka metropolis. Nur Hossain alias Nurul Islam Nahid (38) studied up to SSC in Shariatpur. In 2009, the Middle Eastern country went to the United Arab Emirates. After staying there for 2 years, he came back to the country and was able to work as a driver in Qatar again.

He returned to the country from Qatar in 2016. Due to long stay in exile, he is fluent in Hindi, English and Arabic. Returning to the country, he formed an NGO called “Chander Alo Samabay Samiti” and in the year 2020, by establishing an unapproved online based satellite TV channel. He joined as the director of “Bangabandhu Satellite TV (BSTV News24)”.

It is known that many people come to his home and office address every day. Nahid’s daily job was to take money from someone for a job, to send someone abroad, to take investment from someone, to cheat someone. The detainees used expensive branded cars to gain the trust of the general public. The other eight accused used to help the criminal mastermind Shaheen Khan and Nur Hossain in various ways.
