Khaleda Zia to be taken abroad when medical board would allow: Dr Zahid

BNP Chairperson's personal physician and BNP Standing Committee Member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain today said that the transfer of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia to London by an air ambulance for advanced treatment might be further delayed.

He said, "The air ambulance that was supposed to take Begum Zia abroad could not arrive due to a technical glitch. Furthermore, the members of the medical board held an urgent meeting and decided that it would not be appropriate for her to fly at that moment. That is why the matter of taking Khaleda Zia abroad is being delayed, and perhaps it will be delayed further as well."

Dr Zahid made these remarks at a press briefing in front of the main gate of Evercare Hospital in the city.

He said, "We have the full preparation for going abroad. She will be taken abroad whenever the medical board deems it appropriate."

"It must be remembered that when you air-fly for 12 to 14 hours, it is not always possible for an ill person to cope with the physical changes that occur in humans at high altitudes. Therefore, keeping this in mind, please do not be confused, and please do not try to spread any confusion. Her physical condition will dictate when she can or will be taken abroad for treatment."

Earlier, on December 4, Dr Zahid announced that Khaleda Zia will be taken to London sometime after midnight or early tomorrow morning (Friday) at a press conference.

Mentioning that Khaleda Zia's best treatment is being ensured, he said, "The highest standard of treatment and her safety and security, meaning the medical aspects are being prioritized for 'Deshnetri' Begum Khaleda Zia. The medical board, which includes doctors from the UK, America, China, and local physicians, is giving the most importance to her physical condition."

Appealing not to spread rumors about Khaleda Zia's treatment and not to listen to them, he urged, "Various kinds of rumors are being spread on social media regarding Madam's treatment. I would request you to stay away from these."

Khaleda Zia was admitted to the hospital on November 23 after developing breathing difficulties due to a lung infection. Subsequently, she developed pneumonia. She also has pre-existing chronic conditions, including kidney, liver, arthritis, and diabetes issues. As a result, the situation is complex- treating one illness often has an adverse effect on another.
