Govt to assist if family decides to send Khaleda abroad: Adviser

Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain today said the government will take necessary steps to send BNP Chairperson and former prime minister Khaleda Zia abroad for treatment if her family or party formally decides on the matter.

"If they decide, the government will take required measures," he told reporters, responding questions from journalists at the Foreign Ministry here.

He added any decision regarding Khaleda Zia's medical treatment abroad would depend on her family or party.

The adviser also said the interim government has not yet received any formal communication regarding the possible return of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman to Dhaka.

Meanwhile, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia's personal physician and BNP Standing Committee Member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain said that Khaleda Zia is responding to the treatment being provided by her medical team.

"Begum Khaleda Zia has been undergoing treatment in the CCU of Evercare Hospital since November 27 and is responding to the treatment being provided by the doctors," Dr. Zahid said at a press briefing outside the hospital around 12:30 pm today.
