

TBT Report : The Dean's Award Ceremony of the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of Dhaka for session 2021, 2022 & 2023 was held at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building of the University on last Thursday. 57 students from four departments of the faculty (Geography and Environment, Geology, Oceanography and Disaster Science, and Climate Resilience Department) received the Dean's Award. In addition, 8 teachers were given Dean's Awards in four categories for their unique contributions to research.
Dean of the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Professor Dr. Kazi Matin Uddin Ahmed, presided over the program, and Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan was present as the chief guest. Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Sayema Haque Bidisha, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed, and Treasurer Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury were present as special guests. Emeritus Professor of the Department of Geography and Environment Dr. Nazrul Islam was present as the guest of honor. The vote of thanks was expressed by the Chairman of the Department of Geography and Environment, Professor Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam. The parents of the students were also part of the program.
The program began with the national anthem. A pleasant cultural program was also organized by the students of the faculty. Later, a documentary on the research activities of the faculty was presented.
In the ceremony 22 teachers and one officer were also given special awards for their research excellence and publishing article in the Q-1 Journal.
Speaking as the chief guest at the event, Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan said, "We are very happy to be able to give this prestigious award to the students and teachers. At the same time, we are very much happy to have the guardians with us in the program. In fact, the guardians are also a part of us."
The Vice Chancellor said, "One of the foundations of talent is hard work. It should be remembered that many people contributed behind your success. You have maintained the long-standing tradition of Dhaka University. This is our pride. Such initiatives repeatedly remind us of our main work."
The Vice Chancellor further said that "despite many limitations, we have been able to give recognition to students to some extent through this event. However, it is important to give time to family along with studies. The balance of family and academic life will further enrich the future."
Speaking as a special guest, Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Sayema Haque Bidisha said that "this program is a source of great pride for our university. Being able to recognize merit is truly a kind of achievement. As a teacher, it is a great success when students are achieving in various fields. The contribution of parents behind this achievement can never be forgotten."
