Interim govt took responsibility, not power: Adviser Fouzul Kabir Khan

Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan said this morning that the interim government has not assumed power; rather, it has taken responsibility for running the country.

"We want to set a example of good governance. The previous government undertook many unnecessary projects that severely impacted the national economy. During our short tenure, we saved Taka 45,000 crore by cutting unnecessary expenditure and ensuring transparency in procurement. This saved amount, which belongs to the people, will be utilized for other development works," he added.

Adviser Fouzul Kabir Khan said this while exchanging views with government officials and stakeholders at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner office.

Describing the upcoming general election as an 'examination' for the interim government, he said, "Public servants must work neutrally. We removed all deputy commissioners and superintendents of police who conducted the 'Midnight Election' in 2018. We are committed to holding the upcoming elections free, fair, impartial and peaceful."

He said this election would be different, as expatriates will also be able to cast postal votes and a significant number of young voters, who were unable to vote in the last 15 years, will exercise their voting rights.

Deputy Commissioner Hasina Begum presided over the meeting.

Government officials and leaders of different political parties were present on the occasion.
