TBT DESK: The government has approved two key procurement proposals-one for importing a cargo of LNG and the other for sourcing 1.10 crore litres of refined rice bran oil-to meet growing domestic demand for energy and essential commodities. The approvals came at the 19th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP), held on Tuesday at the Bangladesh Secretariat with Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed presiding.
As per a proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, state-owned Petrobangla will import one cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from M/S Gunvor Singapore PTE Ltd through international quotations. The deal is valued at approximately Tk 584.16 crore. In a separate move, the Ministry of Commerce secured approval for the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) to procure 1.10 crore litres of refined rice bran oil through local open tenders. The suppliers include Majumder Products Ltd (Dhaka), Tamim Agro Industries Ltd (Dhaka), Prodhan Oil Mills Ltd (Gaibandha), and Green Oil and Poultry Feed Industries (Dhaka). The total procurement will cost around Tk 177.10 crore, with the per-litre price fixed at Tk 161.
The CCGP also cleared six other procurement proposals under the Ministry of Water Resources for the "Climate Smart Agriculture and Water Management (CSAWM) Project," implemented by the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB).
