Japanese to boost trade and investment

TBT DESK: Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh SAIDA Shinichi paid a courtesy call to Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin at his office at Bangladesh Secretariat in the capital on Monday.
During the meeting, they discussed issues related to boosting trade and investment between the two countries, the exchange of experiences and the Commerce Adviser's recent visit to Japan.
The Commerce Adviser said that fruitful discussions were held in Tokyo with representatives of Japan's large business groups like NEXI (NIPPON), Mitsui, Marubeni, HSBC, Mitsubishi Heavy Industry and JT regarding investment in Bangladesh, said a Commerce Ministry press release. They have expressed their keen interest towards investing in this country, he added.
Terming Japan as one of Bangladesh's important development partners and a friendly nation, Bashir said that there is an opportunity to further strengthen the bilateral relationship through increasing trade and investment. At the same time, he called upon Japanese businessmen and entrepreneurs to create more employment opportunities in this country by making more investments.
In response, the Japanese Ambassador said that the recent visit to Japan by the Bangladesh delegation, headed by the Commerce Adviser alongside the Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) and the Governor of Bangladesh Bank would play an effective role towards increasing trade and investment.
He also noted that such efforts would strengthen further the bilateral trade relations.
At the same time, SAIDA Shinichi expressed his interest in undertaking a Japanese language education programme here for the Bangladeshis and thus taking more skilled manpower from Bangladesh to Japan.
