TBT Desk: The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has raised gold prices for the seventh time this year, increasing the rate by Tk 12,994 per bhori (11.664 grams) in total. In a statement issued on Monday evening, BAJUS announced the latest price hike, setting the new rate for 22-carat gold at Tk 151,282 per bhori, effective from Tuesday.
According to the statement, the price of pure gold has increased in the local market, prompting the adjustment of gold prices. Under the new pricing, 22-carat gold will now be sold at Tk 151,282 per bhori, while 21-carat gold will cost Tk 144,400 per bhori. Meanwhile, the price for 18-carat gold has been set at Tk 123,767 per bhori, and gold of traditional quality will be sold at Tk 101,932 per bhori.
BAJUS further stated that buyers must pay an additional 5% government-mandated VAT and a minimum wage charge of 6% set by the association. However, jewellery design and quality may affect the final price. The last price adjustment was made on 10 February. Despite the hike in gold prices, silver prices remain unchanged in the domestic market. Currently, 22-carat silver is priced at Tk 2,578 per bhori, while 21-carat, 18-carat, and traditional silver are being sold at Tk 2,449, Tk 2,111, and Tk 1,586 per bhori, respectively.
